Some artists take years to complete a masterpiece. Scott West often takes less than an hour. This impressive feat is hardly an exaggeration; fans have watched the Cloud Cult visual artist do it live, creating paintings onstage to be auctioned off after the band's set. West says that he is well aware of the irony in the title of his first solo gallery exhibition; "Still" hardly describes any aspect of his show. Not only does it buck his reputation, but his aesthetic as well. Though dried paint on a canvas can never move, there is an implied motion to his pieces: close-ups on faces create urgency, and frantic paint slashes and drips remind us that there's an artist behind the piece. And while paintings will hang from the walls each day, their placement is not set in stone, as West plans to move and add pieces in the coming weeks. The opening party features live music by the Wapsipinicon and runs from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, November 6. A screening of the Cloud Cult documentary, No One Said It Would Be Easy, is set for 6 p.m. Thursday, November 11. There will also be a panel talk on the relationship between visual art and music at 6 p.m. Friday, November 19. (Pictured: I Even Get Lost at Home)
