Booze and food movie theater Alamo Drafthouse is coming to Woodbury

Minnesota just scored another movie theater where you don't have to sneak your booze in (unless you still want to).

Ever since the Mall of America announced its massive theater project on its top floor, there have been whispers that Alamo was looking to move to town. Now the Texas-based chain has confirmed that it will be heading to Woodbury Lakes.

The chain has been in the news lately; some men lost their shit when the Austin location decided to host a women-only screening of Wonder Woman this summer.

In response, the Alamo shrugged and donated the ticket-sale proceeds to Planned Parenthood.

Alamo locations are known for screening indie, arthouse, and deep-cut flicks. Sometimes their events offer fun themes and activities, including sing-a-longs and costume parties. Patrons can order up eats from their seat before the movie starts, so if they want to enjoy a taco platter with some Maker's Mark while taking in Moana, they can do that.

“We believe the dominant retail center of the future will cater to value, variety, convenience, and entertainment in an environment that provides the community everything it desires for an overall lifestyle experience," says Alamo's William Gershenson in a vaguely utopian statement with the South Washington County Bullentin.

The Minnesota location will feature Lazy-z-Boy-style reclining seats and food and drink offerings. There will be nine movie screens, an outdoor patio, a full-service bar, and a restaurant. The business plans to open next summer. A new, massive H&M will be its neighbor.

However, if you have teens, don't plan on dropping them off for the evening, as the announcement is already warning about a strict no unaccompanied minor policy. All Alamo theaters also have a zero-tolerance policy toward cell phone usage during shows.

In the meantime, you can drink to your heart's desire at Uptown Theatre (reserve seats upstairs for access) and snack and drink at ShowPlace Icon Theatres at the West End (ditto).
