Is it just us or is Fox 9's Jeff Passolt an underappreciated talent on the Twin Cities news landscape? Passolt has added some gray to his meticulous coiffure since the days he manned KARE-TV's sports desk. But the St. Cloud State alum and Emmy-winning journalist is proof that some things do improve with age. The St. Louis Park native, who's known for his encyclopedic knowledge of Minnesota, is equal parts Anderson Cooper shine and former WCCO icon Dave Moore hardwood. In the anchor's conversational, adaptive style, there's a one-of-us accessibility that fosters trust. But what truly makes Passolt special is that variable better known as sensibility. Talking heads come and go here, ours being but a stepping stone en route to careers at news desks in sexier markets. Not so with Passolt. He's the clutch player in a field often overrun by posers. Whether he's covering the 35W bridge collapse or statehouse budget showdown, Passolt isn't just looking into the camera. He's the father, friend, and mainstay telling us the stories that define our lives.
