Move over, F. Scott Fitzgerald. Minnesota has a new authorial icon, and her name is Louise Erdrich. With 15 novels (not to mention poetry and children’s books) to her name, Erdrich has created an enviable legacy. Her latest novel, LaRose, is a finalist for both the National Book Critics Circle Award and a Minnesota Book Award, accolades that join a Pulitzer Prize nomination for 2007’s The Plague of Doves and a National Book Award for 2012’s The Round House. At 62 years old, this bestselling author and literary celebrity shows no signs of slowing down. Not only does she crank out one critically acclaimed book after another, this wordsmith of German and Ojibwe descent also owns Birchbark Books, an independent Minneapolis bookstore with an emphasis on Native American authors.
