Ice cream can be fun (DQ), over-the-top (Nelson’s), gourmet (Milkjam), and even boozy (Hi-Lo), but rarely is it as elegant as it is at La La. Because it resists the urge to pour Pop Rocks on its sundaes, or shove sparklers in the malts, La La feels like a grown-up date place that’s a totally viable alternative to a bar or restaurant. Sure, bring the kids — it is ice cream after all — but know that this is classic, premium stuff, where vanilla detonates like a world of perfume and liqueur, and the coffee flavor practically percolates and steams, it’s so reminiscent of a bean. La La is light on the eccentric, but full of care and precision. Owner Jennifer Lisburg has devoted the past 25 years to the endeavor of cream and sugar, and you can taste it in every elegant, indulgent lick.
