Shamrocks is much more than a friendly place to catch a game. It’s also the type of St. Paul Irish joint with down-home charm and signs making proclamations like “Ain’t no wi fi, talk to each other and get drunk.” Elsewhere on the walls, you’ll find plenty of home-team memorabilia, from pro to high school. On a weekend night you might see multiple generations of a family taking in a hockey game, then the young people staying for live music afterward, while on Sunday afternoon you could walk into a rowdy sea of purple. Those who want a super high-tech TV setup should look elsewhere, but the average fan will be more than accommodated here: Shamrocks doesn’t scrimp on screens. In the main bar area they add a large projection number to the other TVs dotting the space, and there’s a big screen in each of the two smaller rooms. Patrons can hitch a free ride on the green “Paddywagon”—hey, they’re reclaiming the term!—not only to Wild games and concerts at the nearby Xcel, but also to all Vikings home games. Before getting on board, fuel up your fandom with better-than-average bar grub—the Nook burger’s been regularly recognized as one of the Cities’ best.
