When Case Keenum joined the Vikings in early 2017, no one thought the stopgap journeyman would play, much less rise to embody the spirit of the team. Starting under center from Week 2 through the NFC Championship Game, Keenum played with determination and deference, putting together an utterly inspiring 3,547-yard, 22-touchdown season. Win after win, he bore the success with head-down humility, and his teammates followed suit. Keenum’s first—and, as it turns out, only—season in purple will ultimately be remembered as a heartbreaker. But that’s unfair to the legacy of a man who brought such unbridled optimism to the scorned, beleaguered ranks of Minnesota sports fans. Here’s hoping he summons that same magic for the Denver Broncos... provided they’re not playing the Vikes.
