Looking into Likeness: Portraits in the Weisman Collection

The Weisman's collection of portraits makes one thing very clear: The meaning of "portait" can be very flexible. Sure, the exhibit includes the museum's standard portraits on display, including Manet's painting of Edgar Allan Poe. And there's nothing wrong with time-honored techniques like that. But the show also explores more conceptual renditions of portraits, such as goundbreaking artist Chuck Close's "fingerprint" portraits made of mosaics of ink fingerprints, along with a contemporary self-portrait R. Justin Stewart created by charting his bus use for a month.
