Buying a loaf (or two) of the Franklin Street Bakery’s artisan breads will make you feel better about loading up on their decadent red velvet cupcakes and heaps of like-mom-made peanut butter cookies. Cakes like the popular lemon vanilla bean or raspberry white chocolate torte can be made to order and won’t dent your wallet (think $30 or so), and seasonal baked goods rotate regularly. But you don’t need a special occasion to stop in at the open, airy bakery for a breakfast cinnamon roll or a made-to-order deli sandwich. Just be sure to grab a sixer of mini-cookies for the road. As a four-time winner of the City Pages Best Bakery, it’s impossible -- or at least ill-advised -- to leave empty-handed.
