On July 17, in celebration of the beginning of the French Revolution, Barbette will welcome Twin Cities rock legends Babes in Toyland to the corner of Irving and Lagoon. Joining the famously reunited '90s legends will be local darlings (and 2015 Picked 2 Click winners) Bad Bad Hats as well as a sumptuously vague "special guest" to be added later.
2016's lineup is a little more top-heavy than in previous years — 2015's edition was pretty evenly kick-ass — but the Babes represent a level of star power rarely seen at block parties around town. Also on the bill are the Brass Messengers, Kate Lynch & Her Most Excellent Fellows, Nadine DuBois and Les Folies Risque, Infiammati Fire Circus, MC Foxy Tann, and the North Star Roller Girls.
As with any public gathering in the Twin Cities, there is also a degree of charity at work. Proceeds from the annual Parisian extravaganza will benefit local Posi World Order nonprofit Still Kickin', and Barbette will also be partnering with Eureka Recycling to make the Bastille Day Block Party a no-waste event.
For the less socially inclined, there will be lots of booze courtesy of sponsors New Belgium and 2 Gingers.
The event will take place on July 17 (which is not actually Bastille Day) from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. It is a rain-or-shine event, so write it in your calendar in pen. Preferably one of those elegant feather ones that you see in HBO period pieces.
